The Best Flying Simulator Games for iPhone, Compared
If you want a free flying game for iPhone, start with Flying Unicorn Simulator 2024: it is free, rated 4+, has online multiplayer, and holds 4.6 stars from over 42,000 reviews. Pick Car Flight Simulator 2024 instead if you want driving as well as flight, Rogue Robot Simulator Extreme (rated 12+) for mech combat, or Flying Dragon’s Life Simulator ($9.99, no ads or in-app purchases) if you would rather pay once than be sold upgrades.
A note on what this is: these five games are all made by us, Extremesoft. This is our own lineup compared honestly against itself, not a survey of the App Store. We have put the awkward facts in the table too, including which games cost money and which are rated 12+.
The useful question is not which is "best" but which flying game matches what you actually want to do, because these five are less similar than the genre label suggests. One is an open magical world with friends in it. One is a paid, ad-free survival sim. One is a car.
All five games compared
Ratings and review counts are from the App Store. Every game here runs on iPhone and iPad except Submarine VR, which needs a Meta Quest headset.

Which one should you download?
If you want the most to do, for free
Flying Unicorn Simulator 2024. It is the largest of the five: 13 unicorn types, 8 or more maps including Crimson Valley, Sky Island, Frozen Heights and the Moon Map, adoptable pets, and online multiplayer with Game Center friends on iOS. It is free on both the App Store and Google Play, rated 4+, and about 683 MB to download. There are optional in-app purchases for extra unicorns and cosmetics, and they can be switched off entirely in Screen Time.
If you want to drive as well as fly
Car Flight Simulator 2024. The whole game is built around one mechanic: drive a sports car down open asphalt, then open its wings mid-run and fly. It is free, rated 4+, has no violence, and is the easiest of the five to pick up for five minutes. Version 3.0 added another city on top of the existing Day City and Night City maps.
If you want combat
Rogue Robot Simulator Extreme. You pilot a mech through an open city, swinging between skyscrapers and opening robot wings to fly. It is the only one of the five rated 12+, because of the robot combat, so it is the wrong pick for a young child and the right one for a teenager. Version 1.2 added a 120Hz high refresh rate option.
If you would rather pay once than be sold upgrades
Flying Dragon's Life Simulator. It is $9.99 up front with no ads and no in-app purchases, which is the trade it offers against the free games here. It is also the deepest survival loop of the five: hunt on land, sea and air, fight raptors, dinosaurs and boss creatures, build a nest from sticks, find a mate, and raise hatchlings. Rated 9+, with gamepad support since version 1.5.
If you own a Meta Quest
Submarine VR. It is the odd one out here, since it is not on iPhone at all, but it is the one worth knowing about if you have a headset. You pilot a submarine through an open ocean with no combat, no timer and no fail state, meeting clownfish, dolphins and penguins along the way. Rated 4+, and calm enough for a first-time VR user or a classroom.
Free with in-app purchases, or paid up front?
Four of these five are free downloads and one costs $9.99. That is a real choice rather than a pricing accident, and it is worth understanding before you install anything.
The free games (Flying Unicorn Simulator, Car Flight Simulator, Rogue Robot Simulator) fund themselves through optional in-app purchases: extra unicorns, pets, vehicles, cosmetics. Nothing behind those purchases is needed to finish or enjoy the game, and every map is reachable without spending. If you are handing an iPhone to a child, the sensible move is to disable in-app purchases in iOS Screen Time before you install, which removes the question entirely.
Flying Dragon's Life Simulator does the opposite: $9.99 once, then nothing. No ads, no purchases, no upgrade prompts. For a player who finds free-to-play interruptions irritating, that is worth more than the price difference.
